Overview
Since March 5, 2010 Fort a La Corne Employment Development Inc. has been delivering aboriginal human resource development programming to support the human resource needs of the pending Pehonan Hydro project.

Funding for the initial programming and administration was provided by the Aboriginal Skills and Employment Partnership (ASEP) program.

Over the two year term of the ASEP funding agreement, Fort-a-la- Corne Employment Development Inc. delivered training in the various trades and technical occupations that are directly related to the Pehonan Hydro project. The ASEP funding provided a means for Fort a La Corne Employment Development Inc. to take a proactive approach in developing the human resources ahead of the hydro project so that maximum benefit from the project could be realized by the aboriginal workforce.

After 2 years of operation Fort a La Corne Employment Development Inc. learned several important lessons in terms of how best to prepare the aboriginal workforce. Fort-a-la-Corne Employment Development Inc., because of this learning, is now positioned to continue this work well into the future.

The most important lesson learned by the corporation became its' single guiding principle and that principle is that every action of the Fort a La Corne Employment Development Inc. MUST LEAD TO EMPLOYMENT for its clients This was a major shift in thinking but it has since proven an effective basis for program development, client assessment, interventions, and operational implementation.

My role at FCED as Program Support is to help out where ever needed, which mainly is directed towards data management. I have recently taken on the role as Job Coach, which allows me to help community members and or clients with exploring their work options and reviewing some of the barriers they may face, and identifying what steps may be taken to help the client overcome those barriers in order to reach the goals they have set out. I also help our clients and community members with resume preparation/making, job searching, as well as provide any information I may have regarding training and job opportunities that may be coming up in the near future.
